The visit of Shlomo Lahat
When Mayor of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Shlomo Lahat, came to visit Open House with members of his municipality, our very first summer camp was taking place at Open House, where the children were joyfully engaged in artistic activity around long tables. The warmth and encouragement that he gave us meant a lot to us in our beginnings.
Inscribed in our guest book by Tel Aviv-Jaffa Mayor Shlomo Lahat
July 21, 1992:
“I came here on the recommendation of friends. I am deeply impressed by Dalia’s attitude towards the house, and by the support which Yehezkel extends to the project. I also admire Michail Fanous’s dedication to this wonderful and humane undertaking. I believe this project, and those active in it, should be encouraged — for, to the extent that such programs grow in number, so will understanding between the Jewish and Arab peoples also grow. I will do all I can to help you. Persevere, don’t be deterred! Believe in your way, because only in such a way will we achieve understanding and prosperity.
Yours in appreciation,
SHLOMO LAHAT
